My Passions
Working to find yourself, & be that
Empowering Positive Sexuality
My specialty is working in the ever-changing and ever-the-same field of human sexuality. The erotic accompanies us throughout our everyday life if we allow ourselves to feel that passion, energy, and pleasure. I feel a deep connection to helping folks to notice and move closer to that erotic energy rather than feeling fear, guilt, shame, or other clouding emotions that serve to disconnect us from that reality. Liberating ourselves from limiting scripts around sexuality and eroticism allows us to reach our true potential as sexual beings.
A project I have been working on for a while centers around managing sexual pain and pain with sex. Many people have experienced pain here, ranging from incidental to chronic. I’ve created a nurturing space with access to resources, creative expression, and community.
I also believe in trans rights and equality for all members of the LGBT+ community.
Creating
I was an artist before I was told I had to seek a “real” (read: conventional) career path. That energy follows me throughout the work I do now, and I’ve found that art and science have more in common than I had previously been led to believe. As time goes on, and knowledge becomes less centralized around puritanical and meritocratic Western ideals, it’s being noticed more and more that the pursuit of creativity feeds and nourishes our bodies as well as our spirits. This is not new knowledge. By allowing ourselves to connect more deeply with our creative, childlike curiosity, we become closer with our true inner selves, and in doing so, reap the rewards of pleasure and wellbeing. I nourish this in myself in creating art and writing, and working with others to collaboratively reconnect with their artistic, curious selves.
Self Care - Travel - Mindfulness
The outdoors is healing. We were not made to awaken in a box, commute in a smaller box to a bigger box where others work, and return to a box to wait out the rest of the day only to do it again another day. I practice healing self-care and mindfulness by expanding my comfort zone; when I find I can stretch out into discomfort, my bubble grows. Acceptance of the present moment is a core tenet of mindfulness that I take pleasure in practicing by communing with nature through travel and meditative practices outdoors. Whether this work takes place in my local community or a world away, I enjoy encouraging and accompanying others in expanding their comfort zones. Only then may others find what they’re truly capable of accomplishing and achieving.
For these reasons, I began mindful and minimal living through taking my business on the road and travelling. You can read more about my journeys and methods here.
Counseling
I’m trained in traditional counseling methods including CBT and MBSR, and have worked in the mental health field since 2010. In 2020, I opened my own counseling practice, where I meet with individuals and lead group sessions centered around positive self-development and healthy sexuality.
Counseling and coaching have much in common with the caveat that counseling’s goals are more pinpointed to address health concerns and walk more closely to mental wellbeing by addressing many aspects of life and its various functions and dysfunctions. In this work, I join others on their healing journeys and combat limiting beliefs, deconstruct social scripts and “shoulds,” and behaviorally address mental health symptoms, while raising consciousness of how individuals may achieve change despite being nested in various systems that mediate and moderate health outcomes.
